Chapter. Interactive Olympiad on Russian history and social studies “Russia in the electronic world Organizational and methodological support for the Olympiad

Oleg Sergeevich Abramkin, head of the scientific and educational department, talks about the “Russia in the Electronic World” Olympiad for schoolchildren.

In terms of the number of participants, the Olympiad is the largest educational project of the Presidential Library. Thanks to its distance learning methodology, high school students from all regions of the Russian Federation can take part in the Olympiad. The goal of the Olympiad is to attract the attention of schoolchildren to issues of the history of the formation of Russian state power, moral and cultural values, and the education of patriotism. We strive to identify the most gifted youth with humanitarian knowledge and help them with further career guidance. Prize-winners and winners of the Olympiad have advantages when entering higher educational institutions in Russia. The organizers created the “Club of Winners, Prize-winners and Participants of the Olympiad”. By becoming a member of the club, schoolchildren will be able to participate in youth information events of the Presidential Library, advise and propose new ideas for the development of national electronic resources.

A special feature of this Olympiad is that when completing some tasks, participants look for the necessary materials in the holdings of the Presidential Library, thus getting acquainted with our collections: “State Power”, “1917”, “Textbooks on the History of Russia”, “The World of Dostoevsky”, “ Decembrists in the history of Russia”, “Russian language”, etc.

    The Olympiad tasks become more complex from stage to stage and require participants to:
  • insert the missing word;
  • define a concept;
  • choose an answer option from several proposed ones;
  • solve a crossword puzzle;
  • identify the source text;
  • find out a cultural monument;
  • navigate the historical map;
  • establish consistency and correspondence;
  • compare texts;
  • translate Old Russian text into modern language;
  • determine the modern meaning of individual words.
    Some tasks require detailed answers:
  • essay writing;
  • writing a dictation;
  • linguostylistic analysis of the poem;
  • analysis of texts of educational literature of the 19th-20th centuries, texts of sources, images.
    Conducting the Olympiad remotely and using different types of questions allows you to solve diverse problems:
  • attracting a large number of schoolchildren;
  • broadening the horizons of students;
  • training in a research approach to describing phenomena, which involves illuminating different points of view;
  • development of skills in working with electronic resources;
  • acquaintance with the holdings of the Presidential Library.

Traditionally, the most difficult tasks for participants are to understand the text of a source, knowledge of images of cultural monuments and major socio-political figures and thinkers, working with a historical map, and writing a text on a proposed issue.

For the Olympiad, our own system of remote knowledge testing was developed. External experts from among teachers of leading universities are involved in developing assignments (they are members of methodological commissions). The jury of the Olympiad is formed from reputable scientists and teachers.

Participation in the Olympics

To participate in the Olympiad, you must register on the Olympiad website “Russia in the Electronic World”, study the recommended textbooks and complete assignments.

The Olympiad is held in three stages: the first and second are remote, the third is held in person.

The final stage of the Olympiad is held simultaneously at several sites - in St. Petersburg, Tyumen (branch of the Presidential Library) and in remote electronic reading rooms of the Presidential Library located in different regions of the Russian Federation.

The Olympics are actively covered in the media. Information letters are being sent to federal and regional educational authorities and educational institutions involved in retraining and advanced training of history and social studies teachers, as well as to humanitarian gymnasiums and schools. Regional centers of the Presidential Library act as “agents” of the Olympiad in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.

An additional information channel through which information about the Olympiad was disseminated is a group on the social network "VKontakte".
