I want to tell you about how I made friends with a mobile router HAME MPR-A1 With 4G modem Huawei e3272. The purchase was made for a friend. A friend chose this model mainly because of its miniature size so that it would not get in the way in a pocket or bag. It is much more compact and lighter than the Hame R1, which I purchased for myself. I wrote about it in detail earlier.

The board and the layout of internal parts give the impression of high-quality original equipment. The 1800 mAh battery has a 4-pin cable, and a copper screen is glued to the board under the battery.

Battery Dimensions

The board is based on the Ralink RT5350F chip and has revision A1-V2.2 (this is the newest version to date). The board has exactly the same version.

After turning on the router, it automatically creates an open Wi-Fi network(the password can be set in the web interface). To log in, you need to enter the router address in the browser address bar: 192.168.169.1 (enabled by default in the web interface English language). The router's web interface is intuitive, the default password is “hame”.

No additional settings or manipulations were required with the Huawei e3272 4G modem; it connects perfectly out of the box.

I will note a number of features of using the device, for example, in a country house. By moving a router with a 4G modem indoors or outdoors (in summer), you can find areas of more reliable reception with a significant increase in speed. This place turned out to be a window overlooking the city.

The speed of 12.18 Mbit/s obtained in a country house indicates that the router perfectly picks up and distributes real 4G Internet.

3. Also tested the upload speed Wi-Fi internet supplied via the RJ45 connector via the WAN interface STATIC (fixed IP) or DHCP. Everything works fine, no surprises.

HAME A-1 allows you to connect to your cable provider using authorization supported by the PPPoE protocol.

4. The router can distribute mobile 3G Internet via a LAN interface via a UTP cable; to do this, you need to change the role of the RJ45 connector from WAN (Internet) to LAN (local area network). To connect to a desktop computer, you need a UTP cable up to 100 m long (possibly 200 m). You can also easily supply power (5v_1A) via a free blue or brown pair (for example, by installing a modem with a router in the attic of the house). This will allow you to avoid using active USB extension cables with a length of 5 m or more (the price of such an extension cable is comparable to the price of the HAME MPR-A1 mobile router). There will also be no need to run buggy programs like “Megafon_Internet, Beeline_Home, MTS_Connect”, etc. The computer automatically receives a local address and goes online when you turn on the router with an inserted 3G/4G modem.

5. Hame MPR-A1 can be used to charge various mobile devices. Roughly speaking, a fully charged router battery is enough to charge an average smartphone 1-2 times.
I tested the HAME A1 with a 5.7-inch THL W7S phablet with a 2300 mAh battery capacity. The router spent 2.5 hours and its entire capacity (1800mAh) to charge the smartphone battery to 79%.

Conclusion: the HAME MPR-A1 mobile router has been tested and found usable, all declared functions work perfectly. During testing, I did not find any network failures or glitches in the firmware. In all operating modes, you can simultaneously charge the router batteries with an external charger (5V_1A).

I noticed something previously published about the same model of mobile router, but the author purchased it from another store. I took a closer look at the author’s photographs and found a number of differences:
1) Another “branded” box
2) Another battery and a different way of attaching it to the board
3) Another board, no copper shield under the battery, also no information about the revision (board version is not known).
4) There is no sticker with the serial number on the router case

Therefore, I would like to mention caution when purchasing this model in other online stores. Please note the differences above.

P.S.
After reading some comments about various batches of one manufacturer of this model, I looked at DX.com and found there exactly the same number of characteristic features:
1) Serial number on the router case
2) The box is the same
3) The body color is black like mine
Therefore, there are at least two stores to choose from where you can purchase the updated international version of this model with guaranteed LTE (4G) support.
