What to do if the Iota modem does not work? Yota modem: settings and testing Yota wi fi 4g lte modem.

Previously, networks from G to H+ were enough to access the Internet, but at the moment to modern man Those who want to always have quick access to any information simply need more advanced signal technologies. Therefore, several years ago, manufacturers began to create a new type of network - LTE (4G). Nowadays, finding a high-quality device that can work with LTE technology is quite difficult, but it is quite possible. Relatively recently, Yota conquered the market with a fundamentally new 4G LTE modem with Wi-Fi distribution.

Technical characteristics of the Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem:

  • LAN communication standard: IEEE 802.11 b/g/n 1×1;
  • Built-in multi-band antenna;
  • Single color indicator light (blue);
  • Internet access software is preinstalled in the device’s memory;
  • Connection via USB;
  • Dimensions: 92x35x13 mm;
  • Weight: 50 g;
  • Service life: 1 year.

But sometimes users who decide to buy a modem are faced with the problem of non-working devices and rush headlong to the store to return an unusable product, although these problems are most often easily solved. So, we will try to analyze all types of problems with a non-working Yota 4G (LTE) modem, the reasons for their occurrence, as well as solutions.

Causes of problems with the Yota 4G (LTE) modem

The main possible causes of problems with the Yota 4g (LTE) modem, from the most obvious to those that require some effort to fix:

  1. Incorrect or “knocked down” setting.
  2. You don't have the required drivers.
  3. No signal.
  4. Network problems.
  5. You just forgot to pay for the Internet.
  6. Viruses.
  7. Mechanical damage.

Yota 4G (LTE) modem settings

Let's start from the very beginning - directly from installing and configuring the modem. First, you can try reading the instructions - sometimes this point helps. If it doesn't work, try checking the instructions below to see if you did everything correctly.

On Win XP/Win7 back in 2012, there was a problem that when connected to the computer, the modem LED was constantly lit, demonstrating the connection, and the YotaAccess program wrote “Connect the modem.” In this case, nothing will help you except, after loading the operating system, remove and reinsert the modem.

Step-by-step setup:

Driver problem

If you upgraded to Windows 10, and the modem you purchased went on sale earlier, then the drivers for it are outdated and you need to download new ones.

See how the modem was detected by the operating system. This is done in Device Manager. If everything is good, you will see the inscription “Modem yota 4g lte” in the list of modems, but if everything is bad, then the system will display it incorrectly (For example, “Unknown device”), and there should not be an orange triangle with an exclamation mark next to the name.

How to fix this: just download new drivers. It is better from official or verified sources.

How to install the driver:

  1. Remove the device from the computer;
  2. Run the downloaded driver installation program (this requires administrator rights);
  3. Follow the installer's instructions;
  4. Wait for the installation to complete and restart your computer.

Check visibility again using Device Manager. If the modem is still not recognized, then you installed the wrong driver. Start from the beginning.

No Yota signal

Naturally, if Yota Internet does not work, and the modem is blinking properly, the first thing you need to do is check the signal level. It is possible that it is either simply weak or completely absent.

The fact is that Yota is a fairly young provider in Russia and does not have that many large number towers so that, like MTS, Megafon and Tele2, they can catch the Internet sometimes even outside the city. Near the towers, the Internet will be of incredibly high quality, but in places remote from it the situation is sometimes deplorable.

Sometimes this can be solved by moving the computer to another corner of the apartment, no matter how strange and stupid it may sound. Try checking the network in public places. In the worst case, you will have to change the provider and, therefore, the modem (unless you want to take the risk and reflash it).

Network problems

Sometimes there are isolated cases of network failure. This is a completely common occurrence, from which no provider is immune. The reason may well even be weather conditions. If you think that this is why the Yota 4G (LTE) modem is not working, then call Yota support and find out what happened. Soon the cause of the problem will be eliminated and the connection will be restored. In addition, when you explain your problem, consultants will be able to help you or offer to send a technician.

You forgot to pay for the Internet

I don’t think this needs to be explained. You can pay for the Internet:

  • At a bank branch;
  • Through an ATM;
  • Through QIWI, Eleksnet, Cyberplat, etc. terminals;
  • Through the Yota office;
  • On the Yota provider website;
  • Using an online bank or online wallet;
  • Through intermediary sites (For example: Platezh.ru, Oplatil.ru, PLATfon.ru).

Don't forget to check the exact cost of payment for your tariff plan.

Viruses

If dancing with a tambourine doesn’t help, then you should check your Yota modem for viruses. To fix this kind of problem yourself, just scan your computer using antivirus software and then potentially cure it. dangerous objects. Processes that cannot be treated must be removed or quarantined. After this, you should clean the registry, for example, with CCleaner. Finally, you must (as always) restart your computer.

Mechanical damage

You can show your computer and modem to specialists so that they can diagnose the devices (this also applies to viruses). If you are told that the problem is with the modem, feel free to take it to the store under warranty if you have time. If the cause of the breakdown is you yourself, then it is better to send the device for repair.

Residents of large Russian cities are familiar with Yota. For a long time, the operator remained outside the circle of the Big Three, putting first place not telephone communications, but fast and 100% unlimited mobile Internet. The situation is changing before our eyes: just recently the company announced expansion into the regions and beginning throughout Russia.

While the trial was in progress, a courier arrived at the editorial office with five different modems from Yota. They have only one thing in common: the same high speed data transmission over the Internet. But in other respects they are very different - from strictly computer-based to extremely mobile.

Which Yota modem is best for you? Let's take a closer look at them.

Yota USB modem. For laptops and computers

The simplest model in the line of modems from Yota. The entry level does not imply the presence of any special functions. A USB stick performs one task: it provides the connected computer with the Internet via a USB port.

The key fob format is traditional among such devices. The modem case is made of plastic with metallic paint. The weight is extremely light – once you throw it in your bag, you won’t feel the difference. The Yota logo glows bright blue when connected to a computer. This is a common feature of all the company’s mobile modems.

Another detail that unites Yota modems is a rotating USB port embedded in the case. By connecting the device to your computer, you can place the key fob vertically thanks to the position locks in the folding mechanism. For the sake of portability, the port is made narrow and does not have the rectangular protection typical of USB connectors. To prevent the modem from “dangling” in the laptop connector, there are a couple of plastic protrusions on the USB connector. There is also a slot for a Yota SIM card.

Due to the lack of additional functions, the basic Yota modem does not need settings - and should not. You simply insert it into any laptop and start surfing the Internet. It takes up to 15 seconds to automatically establish a connection. No drivers are needed regardless of what operating system you use - be it OS X, Windows or Linux. However, if you want with convenience manage your device and tariff, as well as view statistics - you can install a special program Yota Access. It is available for Mac and Windows.

This is the simplest and most affordable modem for connecting to the Internet via Yota. Price - 1900 rubles.

Yota USB/Wi-Fi modem. Distributed by the Internet

Along with your laptop, your mobile device usually also needs an Internet connection. Whatever it is, the need for Instagram or social networks Yota hybrid USB modem can satisfy. Unlike the basic version, it has a Wi-Fi module installed. By connecting this to your computer, you can quickly “distribute” the Internet connection via Wi-Fi – to mobile devices, yourself, friends and colleagues.

Yota's hybrid USB modem is slightly wider than basic version. There is also a difference in weight, but it is insignificant and noticeable only with direct comparison. The same illuminated logo and the same strict body. The type of connection to the computer is no different - a flip-out USB connector that hides a slot for a Yota SIM card. But on the opposite side there is an input for a Micro-USB cable. Through this cable, as well as through a regular USB connector, this modem can be connected to any power source other than a computer. And then you will be able to use the Yota Internet by automatically created Wi-Fi network.

Being a plug-in device, this modem does not have its own battery. For it to work, you must connect to a USB port on your computer, or to any power source. No driver installation is required again: connecting to the Internet and deploying a Wi-Fi network is carried out automatically within 15 seconds after power is turned on. To configure Wi-Fi settings - for example, setting a password for the network - you need to connect the modem to the computer and go to the page http://status.yota.ru/.

Yota Wi-Fi modem– a universal and almost autonomous model. In normal situations, you will be able to simultaneously access the Internet from your laptop and from the devices around it - up to 8 connections in total. You can also use this keychain without a computer. For example, you can connect a modem via a power adapter to your car's cigarette lighter, allowing passengers to surf the Internet on their mobile devices via an automatic Wi-Fi network. Price - 2900 rubles.

Mobile router Yota. Always online

The modern rhythm of life implies an almost constant connection to the Internet. Just thirty minutes without the Internet can result in missed emails and alerts of utmost importance. Mobile router Yota not only prevents such situations, but also saves space in your bag. You no longer need to carry a computer with you or look for a power source: the router will work autonomously during the working day, without requiring attention.

Devices of this type became popular relatively recently – a few years ago, when the need for mobile Internet began to grow sharply. The body of the Yota mobile router is made of plastic - white, with a matte finish. On the front panel there are two indicators with light blue LEDs - power and connection status. The curious shape is due to the arrangement of components inside.

The rear panel is not easy to remove, but the average user will not need to do this. The battery in this router is removable, which in theory allows you to double the battery life. According to the data sheet, the modem operates for 4 hours in data transfer mode. The battery is charged via a micro-USB port on one of the sides of the router. The corresponding cable is included in the box. The thickness of the case is small - comparable to the iPhone 4/4s. The weight is even less - only 86 grams. There is a power button on the side.

Connection to the modem is made through an automatically created Wi-Fi network. You turn on the router, find the Yota network in the list of available ones on other devices and confirm the connection. If you need to surf the Internet and charge the router’s battery at the same time, you can use the micro-USB cable included in the kit. The maximum number of simultaneously connected devices is up to five. Installation of additional software and drivers is again not required. You can configure additional Wi-Fi settings through a special website.

The Yota mobile router is a lightweight, portable and autonomous modem for any device, allowing you to stay connected to the Internet at any time. An indispensable thing when traveling around the city and surrounding areas, as well as at business meetings. Especially for situations when the Internet is needed fast, everyone And straightaway. Price - 4900 rubles.

Yota Many. Standalone modem that works for a long time

Each of Yota's portable modems performs narrow, specific tasks. Except for one thing. Yota Many- this is the most advanced Yota mobile router. Not only does it look great, but it lasts for a really long time. Take fast wireless Internet with you, and if you wish, share the connection with others with one swipe of a finger. In my and Arthur’s opinion, this is the best router presented in the review.

Yota Many is packaged properly - a thick cardboard box with a vertically opening lid. Probably, the love for this format was instilled in us from Apple. And the router seems to comply with the minimalist philosophy: no complex shapes, extra keys and the like. The body is made of some kind of “wear-resistant coating” and has no components - just a monolithic, rounded “brick”. The Yota logo lights up when turned on and connected to external devices.

The package is small and includes a micro-USB cable, which from a distance can be confused with a Lightning adapter from Apple.

This is a universal modem, so a retractable USB connector is built into the case - for cases when the laptop primarily needs the Internet. In this case, the router is recharged from the computer, and the wireless Internet network, if one has been deployed, does not stop working.

Yota Many is controlled via a round mode switch. By default, the router distributes the Internet via Wi-Fi taking into account your own parameters - with a personal name, password, etc., specified on the corresponding page. But if you need to connect an outsider to the Network, it is not necessary to share the password to the secure configuration with him. By placing the switch in the extreme position, you will start open a Wi-Fi network that anyone can connect to. Eliminates the need to repeatedly dictate a complex password. A small black and white screen displays the number of connected devices (up to 8), an operating mode icon and the remaining battery charge.

Yota Many is an excellent universal modem that you can take with you every day and confidently put on the table during a business meeting. 16 hours of continuous operation ensures you always stay connected. Price - 4900 rubles.

Yota Internet center. Internet for home and office

A story about Yota devices cannot be complete without mentioning a powerful stationary solution. Yota Internet Center lives up to its name to the fullest: it is a router that is capable of servicing absolutely all computers and gadgets in the house - and at the same time. Obviously, we have an option for home use, as well as for a small office, where “connecting” the Internet in other ways will be problematic. Often companies are forced to use the Internet connection provided by the landlord of their office - for example, in business centers. Using this modem, you can regain control of the Internet and stop sponsoring local “monopolistic” providers. And the cost of maximum access speed - only 2,700 rubles per month - allows you to use one Internet center without noticeable restrictions by all employees at once.

There really isn't much to unpack there. The wide rectangular box contains short instructions, a miniature power cable and one Ethernet cord - and not a “thick” one, as in most standard configurations, but a flat one. This one is convenient to stretch at a table or under a baseboard, and it looks rather unusual.

The triangular shape of the router allows you to install the router only vertically. The router case is plastic, with glossy outer sides. As befits a desktop modem, there are no buttons, just a row of ports on the back.

The Yota Internet Center has two ports for Ethernet cables, as well as two inputs for IP telephony handsets. The latter may come in handy if the router is used in an office. A rubber plug hides the Yota SIM card slot. Power supply is possible only through an outlet: the modem does not have its own battery. And it shouldn't be.

Bright blue indicators on the front panel.

The Yota Internet Center differs from mobile modems not only in its dimensions. For example, it takes more time to connect to the network after turning on the power - for us it took a minute and a half, but according to the passport, pauses of up to 5 minutes are possible.

The peculiarities of using a stationary router require a different approach to connection security. Therefore, the Wi-Fi network, which is automatically created when the modem is turned on, has a unique password out of the box, consisting of the last 8 digits of the Mac address. It is impossible to recognize them without physical access to the modem and the sticker on its bottom panel. After connecting and trying to open any page, the user will go to the initial setup menu, where he can set all the modem operating parameters he needs.

If you are going to work on the Internet from Yota at home or in the office, this is your choice. The range of the internal Wi-Fi antenna is approximately 30 meters. You can connect up to 15 devices to the router at the same time. Enough for everyone. Cost of the Yota Internet center – 4900 rubles.

Different modems, same speed

Everything is clear with design and positioning, but where are the graphics and reports? An attentive reader may have noticed: the article does not mention differences in the speed of connecting modems to the Internet. The reason is simple: absolutely all Yota routers provide maximum speed data transmission in the provider’s network – 20 Mbit/s. The actual speed depends only on the strength of the received signal at a particular point, and the maximum value is determined by your tariff plan.

The amount of the subscription fee for the Internet from Yota is determined... by you. Roughly speaking, you can use the network for free - but then you will be limited to the nominal speed (64 Kbps). The more you are willing to pay for mobile Internet, the higher your maximum connection speed will be. Money is deposited into your account and then debited daily at the rate you choose. You can change it at any time through your Yota personal account. Thus, you yourself “speed up the Internet” if necessary, or, conversely, slow down the connection speed in order to “stretch” the account balance. Flexible tariff plan– Yota’s advantage, which cannot be taken away from them.

The result of measuring speed in Yota networks in Moscow: on average 16-17 megabits within the Moscow Ring Road. This is enough to play full-fledged online games, not to mention watching YouTube videos in 1080p resolution. The most important thing is that, according to Yota itself, the volume of transmitted and received traffic is not counted. This means that the speed will not be “cut off” at an unexpected moment.

A fundamentally new device is a modem and a Wi-Fi module in a common housing. Essentially, a mobile-stationary router for the Yota LTE network, or a pocket Wi-Fi router without a battery, as one likes to think.

The organized presentation of the new device itself hints at the company’s attention to this direction of development of mobile terminals. Although Igor Torgov spoke about a relatively narrow consumer niche and that they do not expect mass sales of the device, only 25,000 copies of Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi have been purchased so far. In my opinion, many will pay 2,900 instead of 1,900 rubles. for the versatility and additional functionality of Wi-Fi from an outlet. But the market will put everything in its place, it knows how.

The Yota 4G LTE modem is a router, but it was called a modem due to its form factor and to avoid confusion, many people associate the concept of “router” with a completely autonomous pocket device. But this router does not have a battery, and it needs external power. The Wi-Fi module is built into the case, and the modem has become noticeably wider and longer than its predecessor (see photo above).

The stated price is 2,900 rubles; a special program for preferential replacement of previously purchased LTE modems is not planned yet. Even before the official release of the device on June 20, I was looking for information about it on the Internet and came across an offer from one of the dealers: 4,350 rubles. For pre-order, there is a Trade-in program. Those. you give your old Yota LTE modem to the dealer and receive a new Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi minus the purchase price of the old modem. Presumably, they will sell you a new modem for 3,500 rubles and also install your old one for someone else, but this is already a cost of Russian business. The official price of a standard LTE modem was reduced to 1,900 rubles, and we can assume that now for the previous 2,900 rubles. Yota users receive a fundamentally new device with additional functionality.

The modem provides for the installation of a micro SIM, is locked to the Yota LTE network and does not work with a MegaFon SIM card. The maximum number of simultaneously connected users is 8 via Wi-Fi or 7 via Wi-Fi plus one directly via the computer's USB socket. Accordingly, with a USB connection, the Wi-Fi module also works (can be disabled programmatically).

Consumer niches

Everything here seems quite simple. And it’s not easy, if you take into account the audience of Yota users with its minimum price tag of 400 rubles/month (Moscow) for unlimited at a speed of 512 Kbps, faster is more expensive. But more on that below.

  • Fixed-mobile Internet at home or in the office. Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi copes with this successfully and has the important advantage of being a complete solution. No router or computer required, just a standard power supply with a USB socket. Two restrictions: the number of simultaneously connected users is no more than 8 and the size of the apartment/office; the Wi-Fi module does not have a long range.
  • At the dacha. If you have Yota LTE coverage and the Wi-Fi range is sufficient, then this is an excellent option. In most cases, the outlet is in the attic, and all is well.
  • Mobile Internet in the car. Suitable for traveling around the city, started the engine - in a minute with the Internet. For long trips it is worse: the coverage is spotty, and the modem will not be able to jump to 3G/2G. Also, to get the Internet in parking lots, you will have to play around a little with food.
  • On trips and business trips. If there is a Yota LTE network at the destination, the option is very tempting, this is obvious.
  • As a mobile router. This is also an option, although the two-component modem + external battery design looks cumbersome. But with a battery of decent capacity, you won’t have to worry about an outlet, and other devices will live much longer with the Internet via Wi-Fi instead of getting it through their own 4G/3G modules.

Now about the administrative and financial disadvantages. The Yota contract price (monthly fee) implies active use of the Internet, and all road mobile options are only suitable as additional ones. And this is provided that when you leave home, you will not leave your family without the Internet. An excellent solution would be an additional device on the same personal account, but how to share the speed? In Yota, the subscription fee at any given time is determined by the access speed, and the ability to intelligently divide the speed into n-devices is not yet provided. Perhaps in the future there will be tariffs with traffic packages, they are thinking about this topic.

Direct competitor to Russian market - Huawei modem Mobile Wi-Fi Smart E355, which has the advantage of supporting 2G/3G and SIM cards of all operators. The downside is the lack of LTE support and, accordingly, a slightly different target audience.

Equipment and design

As I already wrote, due to the additional Wi-Fi module, the modem has become wider and longer than its predecessor. The SIM card holder also took up some additional, albeit small, space. But the dimensions remained within reason, and thanks to the successful proportions, the modem does not look like an awkward monster.

Neat and compact box made of white cardboard. Gone are the days of avant-garde-futuristic packaging design in the form of a cylinder made of transparent plastic, it’s a pity. But ok, the box is more practical and much cheaper, plus the packaging of branded devices is now designed in the same style as that of MegaFon.

The kit includes the modem itself and the “Operation Manual”, that’s all. Formally, nothing else is needed, the modem works successfully in the USB socket of the computer. But it is more rational to use it directly in the adapter.

Yota insists on an adapter with a power of 1.5 A. Indeed, more and more modern devices are equipped with just such adapters; 2.0 A ones are also not uncommon. On the other hand, 1.0 A adapters and external batteries are still widespread, and 1.5 A batteries may not be available on the household. My Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi worked successfully in the 1.0 A adapter at the most different modes, I didn’t notice any problems. Perhaps they would appear during long-term operation at full load, but there is no need to run for a new adapter right on the day of purchasing the modem.

Design

Open USB plug, rotator for five fixed positions, convenient protrusion for easy finger grip of the plug to rotate from the closed position. Compared to the first model of the Yota modem, several small but useful changes have appeared. We have already seen all this in the MegaFon M100-1 modem, released at the end of last year. I don’t see any point in repeating myself; those interested can read the review and look at the photo (section “Design”).

As I wrote above, the modem requires a Yota SIM card in micro SIM format; it does not work with SIM cards from other operators. It is advisable to grow the nail flat and of the correct size (you can sharpen it with a file) or use a suitable tool.

A small complaint about the quality of the paint marking the SIM card slot: after two or three removals and insertions of the card into the slot, the marking areas were erased. Did you draw the markings with chalk, or what?

A duplicate microUSB socket is traditionally present, which is good. The rest is Spartan minimalism and the absence of any mechanical buttons and switches. There are no antenna sockets, and there is also no slot for a memory card.

Thanks to the rotator, the absence of additional connectors and the use of micro SIM, all the internals (including the Wi-Fi module) were able to be plugged into a case of acceptable dimensions. The dimensions of the modem are even slightly smaller than those of the popular Huawei E392. On the other hand, the Huawei E355 with a Wi-Fi module is clearly more compact, but it does not have LTE support and the reception quality is very mediocre compared to the E392.

There are no complaints about the stated characteristics. Externally, we have a slightly wider and thicker Yota modem, which has an additional Wi-Fi module. The internal device is made on a relatively inexpensive (compared to Quallcom products) Israeli Altair chip with support for LTE Band 7 and Band 20. There are no Band 20 (~800 MHz) networks in Russia yet; frequencies are expected to require multimillion-dollar (more precisely, billion-dollar) investments: for Russian military operators must purchase new equipment capable of operating in other frequencies, facility infrastructure, laboratories, training buildings and almost toilet paper for employees of the Ministry of Defense who are mastering new equipment purchased for them. If anyone doesn’t know, this is also called “clearing frequencies.” But sooner or later the Band 20 frequencies will be cleared and LTE networks will be launched, then support for this range in the modem will come in handy.

I am also upset by phrases like: “...The modem also implements a forced limitation of download and upload speeds at 20 Mbit/s.” The limitation of 20 Mbit/s in the Yota LTE segment is implemented at the platform level, and the speed characteristics of modems, routers, etc. have nothing to do with this at all. There are no hardware speed limits in the modem itself; now in the Yota network this is simply not needed.

The Yota SIM card inserted into MegaFon's LTE router is once again confirms: we are up against the platform limitation of 20 Mbit/s. Although in the same LTE FDD network the same router in the same place and at the same time shows a confident 25-30 Mbit/s with a MegaFon SIM card.

Interface and control

This part of the Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi review is simple and concise. Due to the fact that the control interface does not spoil us with a wealth of settings. But there is also no need to install special programs and drivers; during the USB connection, the computer will briefly inform you about the appearance of the next new RNDIS device.

There are few settings: you can disable the Wi-Fi module programmatically (the only user on the computer) and close the Wi-Fi network with a password, which is highly recommended when starting the device for the first time. Automatic shutdown of Wi-Fi by timeout is also present in the settings, but by default this option is in OFF mode, thanks to the software developers.

After an automatic upgrade of the modem firmware, additional features port redirection and DHCP settings are already something. But, in general, the developer’s approach is clear: here’s the Internet via Wi-Fi as a bonus to the standard functionality of the modem, the rest is your personal difficulties.

For the current (at the time of preparation of the review) version of the firmware, see the screenshot; we do not yet know what will be additionally implemented and corrected in future releases. Firmware updates are downloaded to the modem automatically as they are released without warning.

Impressions from work

It turned out to be not without surprises. In a nutshell, I liked the little animal for its “iron” component, it works great. The software part is not very good yet, but we hope for improvements and correction of shortcomings.

Since the first connection there have been no complaints about the modem. Excellent data transfer speed via Wi-Fi, the device was easily powered from a regular smartphone adapter. There were also no problems connecting the computer to the resulting open network. Here I should sit down and quickly write a blissful review, but the devil pulled me to drive the modem in different, potentially popular modes.

Let's start with the positive. The built-in Wi-Fi module turned out to be unexpectedly good in terms of speed, data transfer is almost lossless. Surprisingly for a router of this size, I was mentally prepared for a speed loss of 10-20 percent compared to a direct USB connection.

Having looked at the consistently good speed test indicators, I tried several pairs of measurements in a row: from a computer via a USB modem connection and a smartphone via its own Wi-Fi module. The difference is minimal, see photo above. For a Yota device, this is an extremely important indicator, because this operator’s mobile Internet is chosen as an alternative to wired Internet. Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi transmission is very good, and if you don’t need additional functionality and the number of connections suits you, then the modem should be comfortable to use “as is”.

The range of the Wi-Fi built into the modem was not encouraging. At the stated 30-50 meters, the monitor shows a tolerable signal level maximum within the next room (the walls are not monolithic or even brick). Based on the behavior of the indicator, I got the impression that the Wi-Fi module can automatically regulate power, but I could be wrong.

A pleasant surprise was stable and fast data transfer with a very weak Wi-Fi signal, see screenshot above. With such monitor readings, data from other routers is barely transmitted or not transmitted at all, but here everything is very decent. I admit that the actual range of Wi-Fi is somewhat greater than it appears visually from the signal strength indicator.

A separate topic that for some reason was not paid attention to at the presentation is the possibility of the new modem working in other routers. They couldn’t answer the direct question right away and were even a little puzzled. Indeed, why bother with all sorts of combinations with routers when everything is already there? In fact, the question is relevant, despite the presence of its own Wi-Fi module in the modem. Many Yota users already have their own home “infrastructure” with a stationary router, home network, television and a torrent client programmed into the router. What if the 2.4 GHz band in the user’s home is very noisy and he solved this problem by installing a “thoroughbred” router that supports the 5 GHz band? The new advantages of the Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem are invaluable when traveling, at the dacha, etc., but this does not at all exclude the scenario of its regular use as a regular modem. That is, quite a few people will pay 1,000 rubles. more and will buy this modem for the sake of ease of use and additional conveniences while traveling, but are not ready to give up their usual services for the sake of these advantages.

At first, I was unable to pair Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi with any of the routers I tested for this purpose. Including two Keenetic routers, each of which works perfectly with previous models of Yota LTE modems (Giga II and Keenetic 4G routers). After updating the firmware of the Keenetic routers, the Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem finally started working with the Keenetic Giga II, but for some reason refused to work with the Keenetic 4G. I think that this is a matter of profit, a matter of time. ZyXEL monitors new modem products on the market and tries to quickly add support for them to the software of its products. Fortunately, the procedure has now become much simpler and more convenient for the user; all you need to do is start updating the firmware components.

For now, users of Keenetic routers may encounter crossword puzzles when connecting Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi. If I understood correctly what I saw, with the first version of the modem firmware, the indicator on the Yota 4G LTE inserted into the router lit up, but the Keenetic modem did not recognize it and did not allow it to connect to the Internet. After auto-updating the OTA (Over the Air) modem firmware to version 01.00.05.999, the indicator of the modem inserted into Keenetic stopped lighting up, and after inserting it into the router, the modem itself was blocked to death for 20-30 minutes, refusing to start with any adapters and in USB- computer socket. Then he woke up and started working as normal. I spent a lot of time doing all sorts of experiments until I figured out just letting the device sit and rest.

Based on the results of my “dancing with a tambourine,” I can so far recommend the following algorithm of actions:

  • Start Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi in normal mode from the computer’s USB port or a suitable adapter (recommended 1.5 A) and do not connect anything or mess with the settings for 2-3 hours. All the same, the modem firmware will be automatically updated, so it’s better if it’s right away and not while experimenting with the settings.

  • If you plan to use the modem with an external Wi-Fi router, then update the firmware in the router before you try to insert a new Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi into this router.
  • If the modem has stopped showing signs of life, then leave it alone for 20 minutes and occupy yourself with something useful for the soul or society. Then you can continue the experiments.

They write on the forum that with the updated Keenetic 4G firmware, the modem started up in this router, I readily believe it. Since it launched in Keenetic Giga II, it should work in Keenetic 4G. Perhaps there really is some kind of defect in a particular instance of the modem, although its behavior with the second router and different cords/adapters is different.

Unfortunately, no firmware can change the geometry of the case. The new Yota 4G LTE is wider than its predecessor, and it will not be possible to plug a modem into the case of the router of the previous model line. Which, in my opinion, is not bad: with a USB extension cable, the modem works faster and more stable. So the user will be forced to do better for himself.

It seems that Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi is software protected and the Keep Alive function (maintaining an active connection to the network) works successfully. Over two days of continuous operation and very rare connections to the device via Wi-Fi, the modem never fell off the network.

Prospects and conclusions

The modem itself turned out to be quite good and works quite well. The size of the minimum subscription fee and the specifics of Yota tariffs are a natural limiter to the popularity of Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi; the consumer niche is much smaller than it could be. On the other hand, an extra 1,000 rubles. for such additional functionality without sacrificing the rest - God knows what kind of money the device will find its users.

In the fairly near future (even this summer), Yota is threatening to bring to market a new model of a pocket router with a larger battery. The price, naturally, should be higher, but for an all-in-one device this is logical. Another thing is that popularity tariff restrictions will also apply to the new pocket router. The operator is unlikely to be satisfied with this state of affairs, so there is reason to hope for some serious changes in the tariff structure. If this happens, then Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi may become interesting to more consumers.

In rhythm modern world we constantly need stable access to the Internet, and it is better if the Internet is fast and inexpensive. Some 7-10 years ago all this seemed fantastic, but today it is quite real. To organize a convenient, secure and accessible network, you can use the services of Yota.

Connection conditions

Having opted for mobile internet Yota, you need to decide on the tariff that will be used for connection. There are three types of tariffs for SIM cards from Yota:

  • For 2 hours and a day. This option is suitable if you urgently need to access the Internet for a short period of time. For 2 hours of Internet access at maximum speed you will need to pay 50 rubles. For a day of access (also at maximum speed) you will have to pay 150 rubles.
  • The monthly tariff is suitable for those who connect the Internet at home and prefer the classic payment option, like with a standard SIM card. The cost varies from zero to a thousand rubles. If you purchased only a modem, the speed will be limited to 128 kb/s, for 550 rubles it will increase to 1800 kb/s (average option), and for a thousand you will get the maximum speed without restrictions.
  • The annual tariff is suitable for those who want to pay once and no longer worry about paying for the Internet for at least a year. For 5,400 rubles you can provide yourself with annual access to the Network at a speed of 5 Mbit/s. For 6900 you get unlimited Internet at a speed of 10 Mbit/s. The most expensive tariff will cost 9,000 rubles. Here the same conditions, but without speed limits.

Yota 4G LTE modem review

Yota 4G LTE is the basic model, the simplest in the line. The cost of the modem is 1990 rubles. The device operates using the 802.11n wireless standard at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. Connection interface - USB 2.0. Dimensions - 92 x 13 x 35 millimeters. Weight - 50 grams. In fact, this is an excellent option for those who plan to access the Internet from one single device.

Visually, the modem is similar to other similar devices - a kind of flash drive with a SIM card inside. This thing looks very stylish, you can easily carry it in your pocket, since the size and weight are slightly larger than the same flash drive. A rotating USB port can not only protect the device from kinks and damage, but also install the modem in a convenient position so that it takes up less space in the horizontal plane.

Setting up the Yota 4G LTE modem

Perhaps the most important advantage of Yota modems is their support for Plug&Play technology. This means that the first time you connect the device, a special driver will be automatically loaded. No disks or additional media with software. Immediately after you have installed the modem on your computer, you need to open any web browser to go to the page with Internet access activation. The activation interface will prompt you to enter a phone number to which an SMS with a confirmation code will be sent. Therefore, it is important to use a valid phone number. Usually this is enough to get started. However, you can specify the range of IP addresses obtained from the DHCP server.

Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem review

Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi is a second level modem. The cost of the device is 2990 rubles. The modem operates according to the 802.11n communication standard at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. The USB 2.0 interface is used for connection. Dimensions - 92 x 13 x 35 millimeters. Weight - 50 grams. The first model is very limited in its capabilities, and when working, Internet access is needed not only from a laptop or desktop computer, but also from a mobile gadget (smartphone or tablet). To do this, you need a router that will distribute the network to all gadgets at once.

However, Yota engineers solved this issue by combining a basic modem with a simple Wi-Fi router. By connecting such a thing to a laptop, you can set up an impromptu wireless network and distribute the Internet to 8 more devices, and after the initial setup, you can even connect the modem router to any power source (for example, a car cigarette lighter) and distribute the network to yourself or friends anywhere indoors.

Setting up the device

How is the Yota 4G LTE Wi-Fi modem configured? The initial connection principle is no different from that in other modems from Yota. Just connect it to your computer and the driver will be downloaded automatically. Afterwards, you need to open a web browser and go through the activation procedure again by entering your phone number, which will receive an SMS with a confirmation code. From now on, the laptop will be connected to the Internet. To start distributing the network to other devices, you need to open the page status.yota.ru or go to settings in the same web interface.

When setting up Wi-Fi, you can:

  • turn the network on and off;
  • make the modem automatically stop distributing the Internet after turning off all devices except the main one;
  • specify a name for the network;
  • specify the type of security that will be used when connecting (WEP and WPA2 are supported);
  • specify a password to protect your network (standard eight-digit).

You can go into the Yota modem settings, as well as the Wi-Fi network settings, using the native desktop client for Windows and Mac. It's called Yota Access and can be downloaded from the web interface.

Mobile router Yota

This is the most interesting gadget in the line, combining a modem and a router. An important feature of the device is the built-in battery, thanks to which it operates without connecting to external power sources. Yota assures that it can operate on one charge for up to 4 hours. Setting up the device is almost no different from that in the previous gadget.

The only point: when you turn it on for the first time, the modem will automatically create an open Wi-Fi network, which you need to connect to in order to immediately start working or change settings. Immediately after activation and confirmation, the user will have access to settings for name, password, encryption and other parameters. The Yota modem is also configured on a router from other manufacturers and gadgets such as Yota Ready.

Testing

During independent testing on a MacBook computer with standard network parameters, it turned out that the speed of Yota modems is slightly lower than that of competitors, but at the same time sufficient for comfortable work, and coupled with the prices, it is absolutely excellent. Within a living space on the ground floor, the Yota modem was able to accelerate to 5.5 Mbit/s when downloading, and to 0.32 Mbit/s when uploading. The ping value stopped at 51 milliseconds. On the street, the Yota modem was able to accelerate to 8.10 Mbit/s when downloading and to 0.34 Mbit/s when uploading. The ping value stopped at 47 milliseconds.

Possible problems

Even such a simple device as a YOTA 4G LTE modem sometimes does not function as expected. It happens that you connect the modem to the computer, but nothing happens. This happens if the USB port is not functioning properly or is simply disabled in the BIOS. If this is the case, then no USB device will be detected in the manager. Problems also arise when connecting the modem to computers running older versions operating systems. For example, Windows XP may not always recognize your modem or may not support certain features. To solve the problem, you should update the system or install a fresh driver package.

Poor connection problems can be solved by improving the signal. To do this, you should get a special USB extension cable and move the modem to a point in the room where the signal level is most stable. You can reset the Yota modem settings, as well as the Wi-Fi network parameters, on the website status.yota. Other problems can be solved individually by contacting Yota technical support. Employees will definitely explain all the setup steps, help with connection and solving all sorts of issues.

One of the leading areas of work of the telecommunications company Yota is the provision of high-speed 4G LTE Internet services, which is 8-10 times faster than the usual 3G connection format. The operator's arsenal includes favorable conditions using the Internet not only on smartphones and tablets, but also on USB modems and routers. Here you need to pay attention to the fact that the tariffs for the Iota modem are fundamentally different from similar offers from other providers. Even after the user has given preference to any tariff plan, he remains able to change the traffic speed and cost of services without waiting for the end of the billing period.

In the article:

The Internet assistant Tariff-online.ru will describe the current Yota tariffs for the modem so that you can choose the most suitable option for receiving Internet services. We will also touch on the issue of connecting, disconnecting, setting up tariff plans for the modem and network conditions.

Connection conditions

Yota tariff plans for a modem or router are aimed at users who need a high-quality connection to access the Internet from a laptop or desktop computer. Also, these tariffs allow you to effectively solve the problem of distributing the Internet via Wi-Fi. Those subscribers who want to get unlimited Internet on a smartphone or tablet must connect to other tariff packages optimized for these types of gadgets. More details about the terms of provision and prices for unlimited traffic Yota for the phone can be found.

Tariff activation

The procedure for activating the Yota modem tariff is very simple and can be performed in several ways:

  • request to connect the package to the technical support service by calling 8 800 550 00 07;
  • Yota office specialist services;
  • authorization on the provider’s website and connecting the desired tariff in the self-service menu “Personal Account”.

The same options will help you disable or change the tariff.

Please note: if the SIM card is needed solely for the Internet, there is no need to disable the tariff plan in a situation with a zero balance. The provider still maintains active access to the global network for the user at a minimum speed of 64 Kbps. After a sufficient amount of funds for the subscription fee has been deposited into the account, high-speed unlimited traffic will be automatically restored.

In a situation where you need to purchase a SIM card, modem or router, you can make a purchase on the operator’s website. Delivery of the order is carried out by courier service and takes no more than 24 hours.

Features of tariff plans for the Yota modem

The Yota family of tariffs for 4G LTE modems offers subscribers the most attractive price for unlimited Internet in comparison with other operators in the wireless telecommunications services market. Yota's only weak point is its relatively small regional coverage area. If this problem does not exist, you should think about connecting to the Internet on your computer or laptop via a proprietary USB modem from Yota. Subscribers are offered several tariff plans (packages) to choose from that provide unlimited access to the Internet:

  • “For a day” (for 2 hours or 24 hours)
  • “For a month” (for 30 days)
  • “For a year” (for 365 days).

The price of Internet tariffs directly depends on the selected data transfer speed. The stability and strength of the signal may be affected by the type of equipment. Despite the fact that SIM card Yota is capable of interacting with various modems and routers, it is better to give preference to branded models, which are available on the operator’s website in the “Devices from Yota” section.

Pay attention! The provider offers users a free test drive of the network, which allows them to determine the rationality and effectiveness of using the tariff on the iota modem without unnecessary financial expenses.

Tariff plan “Day”

The “Day” package is an affordable and convenient way to receive unlimited high-speed Internet at the right time for 2 hours or 24 hours. The rest of the time the network operates in data receiving mode with a minimum speed of 64 Kbps. To activate the “For 2 hours” tariff, you just need to top up your account with 50 rubles. The subscription fee for the “For 24 hours” package is 150 rubles. These plans are clearly priced and only operate at maximum speeds above 15.0 Mbps unless bandwidth is reduced due to insufficient 4G signal.

Tariff plan “For a month”

The most popular is the Yota tariff for the “For a month” modem, which has flexible user settings in the range of data reception speeds from 512 Kbps to 15 Mbps and more. To select the optimal mode of operation of the 4G LTE network, simply change the position of the Internet speed regulator. The higher it is, the more expensive the service.

The maximum monthly subscription fee is 1,400 rubles at the highest speed above 15 Mbit/sec. As with any Yota tariff plans for a modem, the “For a month” package does not limit and does not count the amount of traffic received.

Tariff plan “For a year”

This is the most fundamental and economically feasible proposal wireless internet from Iota for computers and laptops. Despite the minimal choice of speed modes (5, 10 or 15 Mbit/sec and more), the subscriber gets a unique opportunity to use unlimited high-speed Internet for only 450 rubles per month. The maximum network speed will cost a little more, about 750 rubles per month, but at the same time it provides the user with the optimal combination of low price and high data transmission channel capacity.

It is important to remember that the operator provides the option to increase the speed at any time. Before choosing a speed greater than 15 Mbit/s, you need to test drive the network and analyze the operator's coverage area. Perhaps the maximum speed of 4G LTE Internet is simply not available to you and you need to opt for a cheaper and slower tariff.

To make it easier to understand the cost and speed of Yota tariffs for a modem and router, our website has prepared a summary table of the characteristics of each package:

Let us remind you once again that no matter what tariff and what speed is chosen by the subscriber, the Internet remains unlimited. In addition, the user can change the tariff plan and adjust the speed of data reception at any time.

In conclusion

The online assistant site tried to reveal in detail the features of Yota tariffs for the modem and describe in detail their cost and terms of provision. It is important to consider here that you can change the tariff plan yourself in “ Personal account»or with the help of Iota customer support specialists.
